In this brief article we aim to just give a basic understanding of knitting needles, their sizing and what you need to look out for. Originally, circular knitting was done using a set of four or five double-pointed knitting needles.
If you are knitting with circular needles, you can start making tubular scarf for this cast around 300 stitches, and join them together in a circle. The two types of stitches have a different visual effect; the knit stitches look like "V"'s stacked vertically, whereas the purl stitches look like a wavy horizontal line across the fabric. Of course, the challenge of a complicated pattern, or a technique previously untried requires a bit more focus and can result in "tinking" (also known as un-knitting) or even some serious "frogging" (ripping out more than a few stitches, so called because "rip-it, rip-it" is reminiscent of the frog's "ribbit").
For this reason, knitting was initially developed for garments that must be elastic or stretch in response to the wearer's motions, such as socks and hosiery. This produces a reversible fabric with raised horizontal ridges on each side of the work. We're all crazy busy, and finding time to make hand-knit gifts might seem completely impossible.
Then, loop the yarn around the needle and put the stitch through onto the second needle. This transformation may be done by hand, or with a device known as a ballwinder.
While knitting patterns can offer suggestions for design and color ideas, it is ultimately up to the artist to decide what the final product what look like. These few basic knitting instructions are the foundation of any project you will ever knit.
